Koger Center

The Koger Center is located on the campus of The University of South Carolina and is also owned and operated by the university.  Open since 1989 and it was named for Ira & Nancy Koger because of a substantial donation they made from personal and corporate funds to help construct this $15 million center.  It is a beautiful center that celebrates theater and the performing arts.  The first performance ever given here was by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.  About 535 events take place each year at the Koger Center.  That is in addition to music classes and rehearsals. It is also the regular performance hall for the USC Symphony Orchestra.  Their website gives visitors a full calendar of events to make it easier to plan a visit here around what you’d like to see.  You can also purchase tickets online for the different events. 

The Koger Center is also available for organizations to rent out.  However, there are specific guidelines that each group must follow, whether it is a non-profit or profit organization.  It is a very large facility with seating for over 2,000 people but because of structural limitations and a busy seasonal schedule they cannot honor wedding requests or Christmas party requests.  If you enjoy the theater you can subscribe to anyone one of their seasonal packages.  Some of the offerings include Broadway in Columbia, which showcases familiar performances from Broadway and Columbia Classical Ballet.
